The declining birthrate is not simply a demographic issue of fewer births. It is closely intertwined with childcare and caregiving, work–family balance, intergenerational relationships, women’s development across the life course, and broader social support systems. As Taiwan undergoes rapid demographic change, ensuring that families have the support and adaptive capacity they need has become an important dimension of social resilience.

Co-organized with the Jen & Lin Education Foundation, this panel brings together three practitioners from the fields of family support, corporate practice, and women’s social participation. Drawing on their extensive professional experience, they will explore childcare and caregiving support systems, family-friendly workplaces, and women’s development and social participation across different stages of life.

Through dialogue across these fields, the panel will consider how families can be supported so that they do not bear the pressures of caregiving and adaptation alone. It will also explore how workplaces, communities, and broader support systems can work together to strengthen family and social resilience amid Taiwan’s declining birthrate and ongoing demographic transition.
